All About Being in College for a Masters of Fine Art in Historic Preservation
I live in the college town of Starkville, Mississippi and had heard about the new Interior Design MFA in Historic Preservation at Mississippi State University at the spring pilgrimage of antebellum homes in neighboring Columbus, Mississippi. In the summer of 2023, I contacted the head of the interior design department, Dr. Beth R. Miller, and she answered all of my questions. I quickly submitted the requirements to the Mississippi State Graduate School (three letters of recommendation, a statement of purpose, and a resume) and was accepted for the fall semester!
I loved that the Historic Preservation program is in the College of Architecture, Art, and Design. My undergraduate degree is in Fashion, with an emphasis in Textiles, and then I have a business minor. Learning more about architecture and interior design has been a goal of mine for a few years now, so to be surrounded by students and professors that have the same interests as me is very exciting.

I'll be going into more detail about the courses in other blog posts, but here are the required courses:
As an option for working professionals or other students pursuing other degrees, there is a certificate available:
All of these images are from the interest brochure and can lead you to further information, but also message me if you have any questions! I believe since this is the only Master in Historic Preservation from a public university in the area, that if you are from a neighboring state (Louisiana, Arkansas, Tennessee, and Alabama) that you can attend and not pay out of state tuition. Starkville is a very small but interesting town and the opportunities for hands on learning in preservation are endless! I think it would be so fun for people from all over to come spend two years with us while getting an MFA!
