Week 2: One Room Challenge

Every decorating project begins with a moodboard, and the One Room Challenge is no exception. I'm not focusing on just one room, but instead am focusing on mini-projects to give my whole home a much needed refresh.
This past week, I focused on sourcing for the bedroom portion of my project. I discovered a an upholstered cornice board that is scalloped at a thrift store and thought that I just had to have it. It is extremely long and after discovering that all my windows aren't wide enough, I decided to make a canopy bed inspired by the the bedrooms at The Graduate Hotel in Nashville, Tennessee.
After ordering a few samples of fabric to construct the canopy drapery with, I settled on a large gingham check that is printed locally in Mississippi.
My coverlet is fairly new, so I will be keeping it. I tried to source one with both blue and green because the artwork in the bedroom has lots of greens but I knew that the cornice board required tying in more blue. My next consideration will be picking a paint color for the widow trim and the shutters I have above the windows. These are to pull the eye up and I think painted all one color will help to look like it is indeed covering a window. I also need to source a ceiling fan and like this one with lucite -like blades from Home Depot.
After a slow start because I was out of town last week for an antique show in Natchez, Mississippi where I was a vendor, this week was very productive! I'm so excited to see my projects take shape and love this motivation to share a bit of the design process.
